Clinton Looks At Backup; Mike At Stability

Spb Backup review at Clinton Fitch dot Com It’s been a while since we’ve shared some link love here at My Today Screen so why not do one today? For starters, we have Clinton of Clinton Fitch dot Com who’s has recently reviewed Spb Backup 2.0. I did one here at My Today Screen some time back but it’s always good to get more than one person’s opinion when purchasing something. So what did Clinton have to say?

The new 2.0 version of Spb Backup is fantastic and has added some much needed features in order for it to compete against the likes of Sprite Backup.  The user interfaces both on the Windows Mobile and Windows PC side are easy to navigate, intuitive and uncluttered.  The desktop synchronization is a much welcomed edition as is the Unpack application for allowing single file or folder extraction from a backup file.  Finally, the speed of the backup process is great and best that I have tested.

Is Windows Mobile really unstable? From backup to stability. That’s what Mike over at Mobile Jaw recently looked at in a very well-thought out but succinct article. Windows Mobile has been getting a lot of flak about stability issues, but really, is it Microsoft’s fault? I don’t think so and Mike certainly doesn’t:

Could it be Microsoft? While it’s certainly is possible, I find this option to be highly unlikely as well. If they had a serious memory leak or instability, I would like to think that it’s been addressed at some point over the years and versions that have rolled by. I’m not saying that Windows Mobile is perfect and that you’ll never find a bug in it. I am saying that major issues are going to be addressed from release to release.

So what’s the problem? Well I’ll give you a hint. The larger the number of applications a platform has, the more unstable it is. So Windows Mobile, with it’s library of over 18 000 titles is, as you would expect, a lot less stable than an iPhone which has under 1 000 (at last count). Same goes for BlackBerry too with their much smaller library of titles. Check out his full article here.
