wefi logo It seems that everywhere you turn nowadays, you’ll see something related to Social Networking. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I hate it, just that there are just so many of it that you never know which one to join. WeFi is one such service and it does things differently.

For starters, you download and install an application onto your computer, be it a Windows or Mac (sorry Linux users, there’s no love for you at the moment). When launched, it helps you find hotspots and shares your location. So if your friend wanted to look for you, all they had to do was look for yo on their WeFi and find you from there. Pretty nifty eh? But where does the Windows Mobile part come in?

WeFi mobile application Well it has a Windows Mobile application actually. But the tracking capability is not there in the version I downloaded. So why would you want it? For the simple reason that it makes managing your WiFi connection on Windows Mobile just so much easier.

We all know how cumbersome it can be to manage the WiFi on our devices. The list of networks are in one location, power settings in another and even connecting to one, we get hit with a few prompts like where which connection it should use and so forth. Couldn’t the whole process be any more complicated? Even for a seasoned user of Windows Mobile like me, I wish there was a much easier and speedier way for me to connect to WiFi hotspots anywhere.

WeFi plans to take the pain away by making the network connection automatic. You’re no longer bombarded with popups or questions. Choose the Automatic connection and it’s all good to go. What’s more, it even allows you to (very easily) change between power-saving and performance mode.

That’s not all because you can even set it to search for WiFi networks when your device is suspended so that when you whip it out, you’re all ready to connect. How convenient :D

Even with the social networking aspect of it in the Windows Mobile version, WeFi is still worth a download if you are using WiFi connections regularly. They might add the location-tracking in the future and when that happens, it would be even better I assume.

Until then, it would just make your WiFi experience on Windows Mobile more bearable. So go ahead and download your FREE copy today.

I’ve been using wefi for quite some time now.
It is a good piece of software, but far from perfect - It is still a little bit buggy, but I use it for WiFi management more than I use HitchHiker which is another freeware wifi management application for WinMo.

I have read that some people have experienced some trouble when uninstalling it - all their keys were deleted.
I did not experience this myself though.

Hm. I want one now. I would definitely love if they add location-tracking to it.

Hi Amir,

This is a little off topic, but may I inquire where you guys are based?
(Any chance that you are based in Israel?)

Regards,
Ran

(A very good chance that) we are. Our R&D is in Tel-Aviv, with some additional presence in the US.

If I don’t wrong, they are Tel-Aviv based company. I just grabbed some free wifi from their office while walking on the street. :-)
