Contest: Omega One 1-ToGo…We have Three-ToGo

omega one 1-togo

Hey, folks.  Well, some of you may have noticed that once we got through the initial launch extravaganza, we sort of started slacking on contests.  Well, not exactly.  The truth is, it took us almost this long to get all of the prizes distributed (there were a lot).  In the meantime, however, we have not been sitting idle.  In fact, we have been in touch with a few other companies about running some contests, and we hope to make them a regular part of what you see here on My Today Screen.

Today, I have a fantastic contest, courtesy of Omega One.  Not long ago, I reviewed their new web application, 1-ToGo.  As you may recall, that program has become part of my daily repertoire.  I use it to check the headlines, movies, weather…almost everything you can find on the Internet.  And now I am giving you a chance to see what I am raving about.  In fact, three of you.

Three lucky winners will each get a one year subscription to Omega One’s fantastic new web application, 1-ToGo.  So, how can you enter?  How can you win?  Just hit the jump and I will tell you everything you need to know.

To enter, just download the free trial version of 1-ToGo.  Play around with it and see how it works.  Then, leave a comment on this post telling us how you are using it.   What is on the Front Page?  How do you have it setup?  What features do you like, or is there anything you would like to see that you could not find.  Any comments you have will do.

Leave your comments on this post no later than Friday, May 16 at 11:59 EST.  Once Midnight tolls, this carriage will turn back into a pumpkin and we’ll start picking winners.  So, head on out, download 1-ToGo and let us know what you think.  Three lucky readers will win.

I have just installed this programme and it’s ok until now. I set it up to show me the weather, local news, sports news on tennis, news about science, phones/pda`s and horoscope. One thing i don’t like is that i get the weather in Fahrenheit which is disturbing, as I use Celsius. If I discover new things I`ll share them with you.

That is a great suggestion. You should use the suggestion option in the pulldown menu to send that it to Omega One.

This is a nifty little web concentrator. I’ve got CNN, Brighthand, food and dining articles, science articles, politics, medical/health, and of course RSS feeds. On my X7501 it looks slightly better than in Opera, as the text in the Opera dropdown is absurdly large. Whereas in IE I can see 6 items listed in the dropdown, Opera shows only three due to the (default?) large font size in Opera. Also, if I jump to gmail the 1-to-Go title bar get cut off though there are scollbars next to it in Opera. Thank goodness I can add custom RSS news feeds, but I wish I could add local newspapers.
One caveat, which I think Doug mentioned, is that 1-to-Go doesn’t cache information (understandably, I think) an unlimited data package would be recommended.

I really like the fast access to the web services I use most - Gmail, flickr, etc. I’ve been needing something like this for a while. The only thing I don’t care for is how long the dropdown menu is which makes it tough to find what I’m looking for. Maybe I chose to many items, but it would be nice to color or bold some of the items used more frequently and/or re-order them so I can put my most-used services at the top of the menu. Forgive me if this is already possible, I’ve not used it long enough to figure out how.

Overall, though, I really like the program!

@Breley — Interesting comments about using this program in Opera vs IE. I don’t have Opera installed right now, so I had not experienced that. And you are right, we did discuss caching, though that was actually in my conversation with Scott in the comments not in the main article.

@ Leigh Ann. I agree with you. One of the areas I suggested could have been improved was this pull down menu. I would much rather have seen a graphically based navigation screen.

I tried to install this, but when I tried to sign up, it claimed I didn’t have a valid email address. This was through Opera. I ended up deleting this program, so I guess I’ll try again, but so far not holding out much hope.

Thanks for the comments guys. A couple of points:

* To change from Fahrenheit to Celsius is something you can do in the Settings menu. There’s a “Imperial / Metric” option. I’ve since added a feature to highlight some of these issues for new users for the first 2 days of use so people know how to do this. For customers who put in a US weather location I default to Fahrenheit, and I default to Celsius for everyone else.

* Kevin - can you let me know the e-mail address 1-ToGo said was invalid? I’ve got some Javascript checks on e-mail addresses, and looks like my code needs tweaking. Please reply to andy@omegaone.com.

Set-up on my Mogul went smoothly and has been operating flawlessly. RSS take some time to instsall with multiple cutting and pasting. Overall pleased but will withold rendering an opinion with recommendations because each individual has their own value threshold.

Cap’n, I’d love to hear what worked or did not work for you. Or you can use the feedback option to send in your thoughts. I found OmegaOne to be very responsive to my feedback.

One thing on the drop down menu. Yes, the ordering on this definitely needs improving. It’s supposed to order them by “most used” - i.e. the ones you use the most will be at the top of the list. However, that doesn’t seem to be working correctly right now. I’d like to have a shorter list, or divide it into subcategories, but don’t have a good solution right now. Maybe a few drop down selectors at the bottom of the screen (one for each category - i.e. weather, news…)? Having a list of applications is tough on a mobile phone as I can’t use flash or any complex script or HTML.
