CooTek Releases TouchPal v3.0

CooTek The war of the SIPs heated up late last year and it doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. Be it commercial or free applications, these SIPs have definitely made our lives a lot better and we have a lot to choose from. If you’ve made up your mind about which SIP to go with, you might just have to make some changes as CooTek releases TouchPal v3.0

CooTek TouchPal When a developer releases a major version, there are usually a lot of new features added and CooTek’s TouchPal is no exception. There’s quite a lot of changes actually and CooTek has decided to break it into 2 sections: Platform and Features. From the CooTek site:

The New Platform

Each time we released a new version, we made some aggressive optimization in the platform and architecture. This time there’s also some big improvements.

  • The keyboard is now designed to support a variety of layouts. In addition to the two-key layout, we added the single-key layout and 9-key layout.
  • The “Flow” engine can detect your gesture and move up the keyboard.
  • SDK tools for building language packs are now available. We will open it to limitted partners who could help us develop more language packs.
  • Images are seperated from the DLL and thus make the DLL file much smaller. This would help resolve the loading issue on some resource limitted models.

Pretty impressive I must say. But that’s not all folks:

The New Features

  • “Flow” your keyboard - You can switch layouts or turn pages by sliding left or right on the keyboard.
  • Skins are supported - You can download different skins or design your own skins.
  • Press & hold - For those who don’t like sliding, now you can hold a key to expand all the possible characters.
  • Change priority of a word in dictionary, or delete a custom word.
  • Key press sound effect.
  • Prediction based on context - The prediction engine can now guess the word based on what you have typed. For example, if you typed “let” and then type for “us”, the word “us” will appear prior to “is”.
  • Next word prediction - If you typed “look”, the word “forward to” will be shown in the candidate list.

And of course, with every new version, bug fixes are also included. So if you have turned your back on TouchPal for whatever reason, be sure to give them a try once again. As always, the Standard versions are free (and offer limited features) while the Professional are full-fledged and priced at $19.99. Order today and you can get the professional for only $12.98. V2 users can get a one time free upgrade to V3. (via CooTek)

I have been using the previous version of TouchPal for quite some time so far, and without a doubt, this is the best SIP of them all.
Highly recommended!
When the day comes and they support Hebrew as well, I will have no need of any other keyboard.

Interesting software review. Even if i have a hardware qwerty keyboard. I would like to see more free software reviews though. For example - what are some good *free* SIPs?

I have to say this is THE BEST SIP all over the world, even if you count iPhone keyboard on! :) Just its free edition can beat all existing ones, pro edition is coolest.

Yeesh that looks crazy cool. I never quite got used to the whole slide-n-select method though. But kudos for making the product better and better (esp. so quickly!)

I just upgraded to the new version. Thanks for the heads up!
This new version is absolutely amazing. Simply brilliant!

Does anyone else have a memory leak kind of problem? After I upgraded to V3, the gwes.exe process now increases really quickly. It grows to over 7mb and eats all the ram. After removing touchpal the problem stopped so I am sure that is the reason. Other than that V3 is awesome. Oh, I have an etenx500+ so it might be a vga screen thing.

This:

Press & hold - For those who don’t like sliding, now you can hold a key to expand all the possible characters.

is the best feature ever.

Give us more language packs! More language packs, CooTek! :)

I’m from Poland, and using you keyboard is now same useful as other SIPs… But, when writing in Englich, with English word completion and suggestions - it’s a best software keyboard ever!

:)
