Could This Be The T-Mobile Wing II?

HTC Kaiser 140 Maybe it’s because SonyEricsson decided to not support T-Mobile’s 3G networks. Maybe it’s because I wanted an all-in-one device that not only runs Windows Mobile but also has viable 3G. Whatever the reason, I suggest filing this in the rumor mill for the time being.

While browsing PDADb.net earlier today, I came across this. Sure it looks like the Kaiser which was released many months back. Sure it’s replacement, the Touch Pro is making it’s way into many a users’ hands as we speak. But what struck me about this particular model is it’s support for UMTS 1700 & 2100 bands, T-Mobile 3G’ AWS bands

So why could this be the rumored Wing II?

3G Bands

For one, why would HTC create a device supporting the UMTS 850, UMTS 1700, UMTS 1900 & UMTS 2100 bands. All USA 3G bands. Granted that UMTS 2100 bands are also used pretty commonly in other parts of the world and UMTS 1700 used in parts of Korea, but there are other reasons as well.

Release Date

The Wing II replacement is not expected to hit until early 2009. So if it’s meant to be sold in Q1 of 2009, shouldn’t HTC prepare a version before that to test it out?

Tenure

Release Date The Wing is a rather dated device. Don’t you think it’s about time T-Mobile comes up with a replacement for it. But wanting and wishing for a replacement is just not enough. Business customers who need Windows Mobile to keep in contact with the office definitely want something new. With the other 3 major carriers carrying the Touch Pro and/or Diamond, pitting the Kaiser would be a much better bet than doing so with the Wing.

There has been chatter going on that T-Mobile is prepping a replacement and that some lucky employees of T-Mobile have managed to get their hands on it. Unfortunately, there are no photos to back it up.

So Is This It?

It’s really hard to say. For one, a lot of factors seem to suggest that the Kaiser 140 from HTC will be the successor to the Wing II. Then there are those who claim the Wing II is the Touch HD with a keyboard. In the mean time, until we get further confirmation, I’d say what you’re looking at will be the Wing II.

Do you think this is the Wing II? Do you have any info about it? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
