Did You Know That… Beam Also Deals With Bluetooth
We’re starting a new series here at My Today Screen aptly called Did You Know That… In this series, we uncover features in your device or applications that you might not have noticed unless someone told you.
In this first article, we talk about Beam. That’s the feature that you access from Start > Settings > Connection. To many people they assume that Beam only deals with infra-red (IR) transfers and have been told that turning it off would save your battery. While the latter part of that statement is true, the first part of it is not.
In fact, Beam also deals with Bluetooth transfers. So if you have this turned off, you will not be able to receive files beamed to you via Bluetooth. Be sure to turn it ON if you plan to receive files and turn it back off when you’re done.
Just another trick that you might have missed. Have a tip or trick that you think the masses have missed? Why not let us know about it by contacting us. Share your tips with the world and make everyone’s life so much easier

Not precisely
“Beam” controls OBEX service state (OBject EXchange). Thats all.
Yes, OBEX is required to RECEIVE beams via standard MS interface, but it is not needed in order to receive data via for example MoBlue.
Thanks for the heads up. It’s good to know that it does not affect other programs but only when you are using the built-in ones that come with the OS.
