Do You Have An eM Client?
It’s not everyday that we tell you about a new application that you cannot install on your Windows Mobile device but it’s not everyday that such a great software like this comes along. It’s not great because it’s freeware (though that that does count as well) but it’s great because of what it (plans to) offer.
You see, lately, device manufacturers have been selling their device with only a trial version of Outlook. However, Outlook is an integral application for users of Windows and ActiveSync. That’s because if you want to sync your device with your PC (and thus back it up so to speak), you will need these two. Unfortunately ActiveSync does not play well with other freeware applications out there and even the more popular email clients like ThunderBird do not have free sync applications. So a user, if he wants to sync, might have to spend some good money to either get an alternative sync-able application or Outlook.
Well, those days may soon come to an end it seems if eM Client is able to realize its feature list. Currently, it replaces Outlook’s functions pretty well. It does email, contacts, calendar and tasks and it looks very similar to Outlook if you ask me so you don’t get lost. But what shows promise is the fact that it plans to support ActiveSync. Which means you no longer will need Outlook. But the fun does not stop there. It also plans to have Google Calendar and Contacts sync support, Facebook and other IM intergrations and a few other interesting ones that you can read about here.
It does seem like a really awesome application, especially if it can add these features soon. Sadly, it only supports Windows at the moment so if you are on another platform, you’re out of luck (for now hopefully). If you are keen to give eM Client a go right now, here’s the download page.

Once those features are added, it seems like a great product. I don’t understand why they only had trial versions till now.
Hm.
Good question. I did not even know they had trial versions to begin with. I thought it was freeware all the time.
It sounds like a great product, I will look forward to it’s development in Activesync, frankly the only free replacement to Outlook that I have found is to sync to the Mail2web.com Exchange Server, sure it is slow working in OWA, but the freedom is worth it, I can even sync with my Ubuntu box without using Evolution.

I totally agree. I would like to use Ubuntu more often but the lack of sync is causing to do otherwise.
Certainly interesting. Please keep us posted if those new features are added! I found that the other solution (BirdieSync/Mozilla Thunderbird/Lightning) to be buggy, I had duplicate tasks and things like that. I don’t like it if I have to manually check my synchronization and fix it errors too often! So perhaps this can be a good alternative.
I sure will though I am not sure when that would be.
Hello guys,
thank you for your word of support. eM Client is a freeware BETA.
Best regards

Thanks for coming here and commenting Jerry. I think what many users here are anticipating is ActiveSync support. Any idea when that would be? Also when you mention freeware BETA, does that mean that the final version will be commercial?
Jerry, This certainly looks like a great product. I am going to install and test it. Though, I must say the feature I am most anticipating is tasks. It would also be great if you had an online module so that I could access and sync from anywhere, a la Dashwire and Evernote.
Doug
The ActiveSync integration will take us some 6 weeks. Tasks interface is very important for us and we plan the integration with many mail servers that would allow on-line access and sync.
Jerry
Thanks for getting back to us Jerry. I can’t wait for the ActiveSync integration and you can be sure that I will be testing it out when it’s added.
