Does The XPERIA X1 Support T-Mobile USA’s 3G?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

At this moment, it’s really anybody’s guess. While the initial announcement back in February shows a penta-band-UMTS device, a first if I may add, we have not heard anything since.

It really does not help when, on one hand, you have sites like Connected Internet and Bengal Boy (relatively NSFW; see post #377) who have experienced the device stating that the XPERIA X1 supports T-Mobile’s 3G bands (1700/2100). Bengal Boy takes it a step further with a picture:

X1 supporting the 1700 band

Then you have the majority of other sites saying that the X1 is only triband UMTS. In fact, even SonyEricsson’s page of the X1 shows a triband UMTS, although there is no confirmation as to which 3 bands they will be.

What makes this even more interesting is that Brandon Miniman of pocketnow.com, who is currently reviewing the X1i, mentions that he is able to get onto AT&T’s 3G network. In case you are wondering, the X1i variant of the XPERIA X1 was suppose to only support 900/1900/2100 MHz band. So what’s happening here?

No mention of the 1700MHz band here

SonyEricsson is expected to make an announcement later today with regards to the US version of the XPERIA X1 (the X1a variant) but I couldn’t wait and gave their support line a call. So what did I find out?

The rep is not sure if it will support T-Mobile USA’s 3G band but the reason the press release is not out yet is because SonyEricsson is still trying to work this issue out. Once that is settled, they will issue a press release, expected some time later today.

I really hope that the X1 will support T-Mobile USA’s 3G network. I have been (and am sure many others have well) been eyeing the X1 for a really long time now so hopefully SE does not break our hearts and not support it. Only time will tell and you can be sure I will get back to you on this issue. Fingers crossed everybody :D

I can’t believe we are still waiting! This is killing me! I, too, called SE and the guy claimed I knew as much as he did, and that he still expected to hear something yet today. This was at 3pm CDT.

WTF… I HAVE BEEN WAITNIG FOR EVER AND ITS 6 PM PST AND STILL NO ANNOUNCMENT. THIS IS PISSING ME OFF, I’M SOOO OVER WITH S.E. NOW.

I wish SE would, at the very least, make an announcement that they had to further delay the press release. Just keeping us in the dark, especially when there are quite a number of us who are anticipating confirmation is not the way to go. Come on SE!
