A few weeks ago, Sprint and HTC released a ROM upgrade for the Mogul. This was the one we had been waiting for: EVDO Rev-A, GPS, and more. The only downside was no Windows Mobile 6.1. At that point, I pretty much determined that I would not be the proud recipient of the new operating system. I predicted that Sprint was not likely to release a new ROM so soon after the last one…right? Wrong. I am very happy to say that I was dead wrong on that one.
Hit the jump to see which devices, besides the Mogul, are expected to see the new ROM.
Mobile operators:
- Alltel Wireless: HTC PPC6800, HTC Touch
- AT&T: Samsung BlackJack II, MOTO Q 9h global, Pantech duo, AT&T Tilt by HTC
- Sprint: A new Palm Treo and updates for the Mogul by HTC, Touch by HTC, MOTO Q 9c, Samsung ACE
- T-Mobile International: T-Mobile MDA Ameo 16 GB, T-Mobile MDA compact IV
Device makers:
- ASUS: New phones including the P320, ZX1, P560, M536 and updates for the P527, P750, M930
- HTC: A new Touch Dual for the U.S. and updates for the AT&T Tilt, Touch by HTC, Mogul by HTC from Sprint, TyTN II
- i-mate: 8502, 9502, 8150, 6150
- Intermec: CN3
- Motorola: MOTO Q 9c, MOTO Q 9h global, MC70, MC9000
- Pantech: Pantech duo
- Samsung: BlackJack II
- Toshiba: Portege G810, Portege G910
No word on timing or availability. As for me, my Sprint Mogul and I will be waiting with baited breath. How about you? Is your phone included on this list? Let us know when Windows Mobile 6.1 reaches you.

I’m very excited to see that my device is on that list! (Sprint Q9c) Can’t wait!
What, no update for the HTC Advantage???
Since this is a public forum all I’m going to say is “Golly Gee!”
Hy My HTC is still better than this one
Good Info. Any news about HP offering upgrade for their new devices?
What’s new with 6.1? If you view the list nothing revolutionary. Most of the improvements are available from third party software. And are much better than Microsoft. Take the Internet Explorer. Microsoft should have just incorporated Opera which is faster, provides touch scrolling and other enhancements. Or the new Today Screen. Still looks boring as compared to Touch Commander, Pontui, IFONZ or SPB Shell 2.0.
I am not too excited about the new WM 6.1. But if the upgrade becomes available on my device then I will upgrade. Otherwise it is not a MUST have upgrade.
This may be a noob question, but will the upgrade be free? I just got my AT&T Tilt (aka HTC 8925) about two weeks ago and don’t relish the idea of ponying up for an upgrade.
Johnny, Actually this is not a noob question at all. I cannot say with absolute certainty how the new ROMs will be distributed. I can tell you, however, that I have never had to pay for a ROM upgrade with my Mogul. On my Dell Axim, I only had to pay for one upgrade and that was when it went from WM 2003SE to WM5 (I never installed that upgrade). So, odds are it will be free.
Doug
Just to add on to what Doug mentioned, it is all dependent on your carrier/manufacturer. I had a free upgrade from Wm2003SE to WM5 for the Eten Glofiish M500. That being said, the last round of upgrades (WM5 to WM6) was free so I guess it would continue to be the same.
