How About Some Push GMail?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Developer Graham Murray has created a solution to the lack of push GMail using his IMAP Pusher Service. He created a program that will run in the background on Windows Mobile Professional, subscribe to IMAP IDLE, and will tell Pocket Outlook on your device when to do a Send/Receive to get the latest email. In order for this to work with your GMail account, you have to enable IMAP in your account settings.
Now you can have push GMail and still enjoy all of the benefits of Windows Mobile. I know a lot of people that have been waiting for something like this, so head over to Graham’s site and check it out. Let us know how it works out.
The program still seems to be in beta and the developer is requesting feedback if you run into any problems. Check out the documentation for more details.

Windows mobile can do this without a special program, it’s in the settings of your email. I have mine check every 30 min. You can do this with imap or pop on any email account. This is not called push, push is like a text message you get it when the server does, this just checks your inbox every now and again.
Hi Robert
What you describe is traditional pull. What Brett is describing it IMAP IDLE which is like the BlackBerry. So when someone sends you an email, Pocket Outlook immediately does a send/receive to get that email. Unlike what you mentioned, which is done in every 30 min intervals.
For example, if you have your emails checked at every :00 and :30 and someone sends you an email at :32, you will not know about it until :00. With this, you will know it immediately.
How about the datatransfer ? Will this be increased by using push instead of checking for new email every 30 minutes ?
Good question but I am not sure of the answer about it though.
