How Does Microsoft Company Store Sound?

Microsoft Company Store In case you are wondering what a Microsoft Company Store is, imagine an Apple store and change it to Microsoft. That’s exactly what Microsoft seems to be planning, according to this excerpt:

Sources close to Fudzilla stated Microsoft indeed does want to forge a stronger bond with their retail consumers. Much like Apple has done with their Apple Retail Stores, Microsoft seems as though it will be following the same pattern. Anyone not familiar with the Apple outlets: they essentially offer a more personalized experience, giving you the most accurate and expert information for whatever product you need assistance with. Occasionally presentations and workshops are featured as well. Essentially, it’s a forum for Apple to show off their stuff, and not just products. It’s effective, kind of like technical support without all the annoyances of phoning fifty different lines or waiting a day or two on an e-mail response while your main computer is busted.

While Pocket PC Thoughts argues that having the same depth (that is to include computers as part of the lineup) as Apple is a bad idea, it mentions that just focusing on home and entertainment products like the Zune and XBox is a great idea. I think that would be a great start but why not include Windows Mobile devices to the mix as well? If they do, I might just apply for a job there :D (via Pocket PC Thoughts)

The employee store itself is not large, and it’s 75% clothing and books.

Software doesn’t take up much space, it takes a lot of time.

Hardware is what people like playing with in a retail space.

If MS were to put out their own branded HTC windows mobile devices, or something similar in the price ranges that iPod / iPhones fall into I could see more interest.

Bah! I’m not saying microsoft couldn’t do thiz–but it sounds like a waste of time and money to me. They’d be better off advertising elsewhere-if that’s what they want to do, advertise. If microsoft wants to sell, sell in an online atore if they must. Microsoft alsomight want to look at why Gateway closed so many of their stores. Circuit City and their ilk too.

Apple has unique products that have broad appeal so they can get away with stuff. Plus, they have a base, cultivate their base and advertise.

I think Microsoft has a base too and if you think about it, having a physical store is like advertising as well. People who walk by it might be curious and step in to take a look. For now, there is no word on what they plan to have there (computers, home and entertainment or a mix) so I suggest we wait and see.

And in my opinion microsoft needs to get over putting microsoft in front of everything they sell (as if as soon as we saw the word ‘microsoft’ we get excited).

And company store-that’s a good one. “16 tons and whataya get. Another day older and deeper in debt . . . I owe my soul to the company store.”

When I first saw the title of this post, I thought:
“In MP3 files ?! “
