Details of the latest Oragami 2.0 device (OK, maybe this is slightly left of Windows Mobile, but still relevant), the Shift, have been scarce. In fact, the only thing we knew until recently was that it looked pretty cool, ran Windows Vista, and would be coming soon. Of course, that coming soon stretched into more than a year until it mysteriously started showing up for preorder on Amazon.com last week. Well, now the Shift has finally made its way to the United States, as it went on sale nationwide for a mere $1,499.
Yes, that’s right, for just the price of an upper mid-range laptop, you will receive:
- 7″ touch sensitive ’slide-n-tilt’ screen
- Windows Vista Business edition
- 40-gigabyte hard drive
- Light weight of 1.8 pounds
- 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi connectivity
- High-speed data connectivity with CDMA-EVDO service through Sprint
- Bluetooth® 2.0
- Windows Media Player 11 to provide easy access to music, videos and photos.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like I am missing something here. I mean, $1500 and you get a measly 40 GB hard drive? Sure it is super small, fitting into that UPMC range between a laptop and Windows Mobile device, but is anyone going to spend $1500 for this kind of a machine? Tell us what you think. What do you expect in a device that costs over $1000? Would this satisfy you for that kind of money?

WOW, that is expensive. Can you make calls with it on the Sprint network using a Bluetooth headset? I guess you could Skype, right?
