Ever wondered if the applications on your device is up to date? Most of the times, you don’t even know that a new version has been released. It used to be that you had to subscribe to newsletters or updates to the site of the developer if you wanted to keep up with the latest release. Imagine doing that for all developers.
Now, MoDaCo has a really interesting idea which I hope will succeed. They plan to create an application that checks a database or something similar for new versions and if there are, provide you with the means to get it quickly and easily. Pretty cool huh? So how do you get in?
Well, the application has already been created and it’s called AppToDate. It’s just been released today, but it’s still in beta. That means, it needs all the help it can get to get it to the next level. Here’s what you can do to get on board and help them out as well (quoted from the site):
DEVELOPERS
- Come on over to http://apptodate.modaco.com, and check out the developer guide. This will tell you how to include AppToDate support in your applications (it’s ridiculously easy).
- Download AppToDate - from the same area above, download the application and test!
- Provide feedback - we want to make ATD as accessible as possible, but also as powerful as you need it to be. Provide your feedback and suggestions to help shape the application.
- Tell us about your support - plans are in place to provide free publicity for all developers / applications supporting AppToDate. Don’t miss out - post in the AppToDate area when you ship support!
- Help - we are looking for someone graphically talented to create icons / banners / badges for AppToDate. Is that you?
END USERS
- Come on over to http://apptodate.modaco.com, and grab a copy of the application. Install it on your device and run it. After all, some of your apps may already be supported… and over time, more and more will be! It’s early Beta code, we need testers just like you to help us find glitches!
- Provide feedback - we want to make ATD a true ‘must have’ Windows Mobile download. Provide your feedback and suggestions to help shape the application.
- Get your favourite developers on board. Do you have applications on your device that you would really love to be able to easily keep up to date? Then ping a mail to the developer, and encourage them to join in with AppToDate!
- Help - we are looking for someone graphically talented to create icons / banners / badges for AppToDate. Is that you?
So what are you waiting for? They need all the help they can get and if all goes well, this will be one of the most useful software out there.
I have always wanted such a software and while developers are starting to incorporate updating features within their applications, this all in one application would be even better don’t you think?(via MoDaCo)
