Launch Giveaway 6: …And For Our Next Trick…
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Wow. I can’t believe we are all the way up to day 6 in these giveaways. Frankly, the toll is starting to wear on me. I feel a little like Chris Berman on the 38th hour of the NFL draft. But, like Boomer, we are going to finish this off right with the last two days of our amazing contests.
A lot of you have already left us some suggestions for reviews, and we appreciate them. In fact, we appreciate them so much, I am just going to flat out ask the question. Many of you have followed me here from JAMM, Tariq from eten blog, and our other writers from various points around the Internet. And those of you just joining us are probably starting to see what many of you already know…we will review just about anything we can get our hands on. So, if you want to see something reviewed, now is the time to ask. To enter this contest, just tell us what Windows Mobile software and accessories you would like us to review. Pretty simple, and the result will be posting more reviews which are targeted towards your needs. So, is there a program you have been thinking of buying? Something new you would like us to check out? Or do you want to know how two programs compare? Let us know.
And here is what you will be playing for:

Hi.
Congratulations on your new site.
I’d like to participate in the contest.
I’d like you to compare the following please:
1. Conduits Pocket Player vs. Windows Media Player.
2. Tengo Thumb Keyboard vs. Cootek TouchPal vs. PocketCM Keyboard.
Aamer.
Hi,
I’d like the following:
1. Reviews of green hardware accessories (e.g. http://www.hymini.com/html/HYmini.html)
2. Reviews of games the can be operated with touch alone
3. Reviews of applications that can be operated by touch alone (especially music players, and today launchers )
Thanks,
Ran
Hi MTS,
I’ve got an older, dare I say almost obsolete, Axim X51V.
I’d appreciate reviews that would feature programs that also run on these old VGA devices. I’ve found programs that will run in a small window on the Axim, but no mention of QVGA vs VGA was listed.
A review of how the Iphone clones such as the Cect P168, stacks up against the Iphone.
If it ever gets released, I’d love to see a review of the open source phone
I’d like to see a section of reviews set aside for Smartphone edition software. It’s sometimes tough to find software that will work with the Smartphone and will still be effective without a touchscreen. I have a Blackjack, and I love it, but some of the most popular software titles don’t have Smartphone versions.
As always - great site!!!
I’d like to see a review of Calligrapher 8.6. It’s a program that’s been around for a long tome and I used to consider it a “must have” a few years ago. Now with all of the new hardware and software choices for input, I’d have a hard time justifying $40 for this unless it’s really been improved.
Thanks!
Some reviews of up-coming phones would be great! Save some space for the hardware and not just only the software. Without the hardware, the software is useless!
But thats just my humble opinion
Wow! This giveaway has amazing prize packs! I’d like to see you compare the following:
1. There are so many “finger-friendly keyboards” that have come out lately. Frankly, I’m a bit confused and have loaded or tried no less than 5. I would love to see you compare the ones that have comeout in the last 6 months or so and rate the best. Ones I can think of are Resco Keyboard, VITO ZoomBoard, Teksoft FingerTouch, and PocketCM Keyboard, but I know there are more.
2. Although I wouldn’t put myself in line with the developers on XDA, I’m not a novice when it comes to using and tweaking my Mogul. But one thing that I have never managed to make work successfully is listening to music and/or watching movies on it. I read forum after forum about folks using the Mogul this way, but I always seem to get memory error messages and/or the software won’t play the file, etc. So, I wouldn’t mind some posts about the best software for these purposes and some settings or tweaks to get the best experience.
Thanks!
Kim
I’d like to see reviews of the Resco Audio Recorder and Pocket Radio. I just bought an AT&T Tilt and have been moving my apps from my old Axim X51v to the Tilt. I have used Resco’s Explorer for many years and I’d like to see reviews on some o their other apps. I’m also interested in hearing what you think of the Spb Mobile Shell. I was going to purchase it but read several negative comments on their forums concering rapid battery depletion with it installed. I’m enjoying your new blog.
Id like to see am ultimate mobile media player (both free and paid) shootout
Also id like to see reviews on useful utilities for Windows Mobile
I’m in, too. And, I like to see comparisons of some free versus pay for software (I use some of both).
Also, some how-tos with some more difficult SW or SW that has loads of features (like Pocket Breeze, Pocket Informant, and QMail).
Thanks
I agree with Kim, a SIP roundup would be great. But it would be a bit task as well, if you’d try to go the Werner way.
Device reviews would be great as well, but I can imagine that it’s not easy to get access to review units.
Obviously it’s cool that you usually keep track of newly released games (Astraware, PDAMill, Isotope244, More Games Entertainment, etc) so that’s pretty much the most important thing I think.
As for specific ideas, I think that it might be nice to review some older software to see how it works and how useful it is on today’s devices. Dinarsoft TapText perhaps? PocketMax QuoteToday, Soti Pocket Controller (PC software but might be a nice change), Mobirate MotoGear… Should keep you busy for a few weeks.
While I understand that may readers are using smartphones and use their device to connect to the Interent and thus can get mapping done that way, many of us have devices that don’t have all-the- time access (or data plans that are just too expensive). So I would like to see some GPS routing software looked at (especially as it is about time for several programs to have updates).
I’d like to see a comparison of the newly available Opera Mini 4.1 and the updated IE in WM6.1. Thanks in advance.
Reviews are good; they help you know what an app does and how to use it. But i seem to always end up with two of a kind and don’t know which to keep without missing out on a “best” feature OR which one to better spend my money on when it’s time to upgrade. I’d like to see more comparisons, such as, EverNote and PhatNotes or SplashPhoto and Spb Imageer. Like that.
I would like to see a review of SBP Mobile Shell, touch flo from the HTC touch and any other overlay to Windows Mobile. I like both the Mobile Shell 2.0 and The HTC Touch Flo but I don’t know what else is out there. Also I know that they do different thing and can in some ways work together. I would like to see the different strategies for working with the clunkiness of Windows Mobile. I like windows mobile better than the other OSes that I have seen, but it isn’t the easiest thing to navigate.
How about a review/comparison of the various backup programs? Sprite, Resco, SPB, etc. Resco is, I think, the newest entry. I’d really like to see a review of Opera Mobile 9.5
Ok, I’m not sure if this would be possible or not, but here goes:
Some of us have WM5 devices that do not have official ROM upgrades to WM6. However, unofficial upgrades are available in places such as XDA.
As an owner of such a device (Dell Axim X51V) I would love to see a comparison of the different upgrades that are out there.
I’d like to see a comparison of the newly available Opera Mini 4.1, the updated IE in WM6.1, skyfire, and any other mobile browsers as there seems to be quite a few updated or coming out very recently.
I like the concepts posted above of shootouts between free and paid software or several specific software titles that do approximately the same thing but developed by different companies.
These give aways are amazing!!
I’d like to see a comparison of SBSH’s Pocket Weather (2.x) and SPB Weather.
I’d like to keep up with various programs used for GTD. Pocket Informant, Agendus, etc. What are the strengths? How should we best get started using one of the programs.
Gaming on an all-in-one unit. What games work well? What don’t? I’m especially into Adventure & RPG so it would be nice to hear about those.
Accessories - I don’t mind hearing about them so much, but I can’t remember the last accessory that has been announced that made me really want one. I’ve considered cases, but just can’t justify the cost for a sub-par case and really can’t justify the cost for something better.
As crloga mentioned, comparing Free and For-Pay software would be nice as well. Sometimes the free version does everything I really need. Maybe it doesn’t have all of the “neat” features of the $$ software, but it gets the task done for my purposes. Definitely don’t leave out the free utilities just because they’re not big name.
A GPS software like TomTom, OnCourse Navigator, TeleNav to name a few roundup would be sweet, or maybe a comparision of the most popular weather apps (SPB Weather, PocketWeather, Fizz Weather, etc.). I’m mulling over a few GPS software versions to get myself.
As for accessories, hm, maybe a comparison some of the latest travel chargers, like those found at Boxwave, Amazon, Proporta…
Hi,
My answer will be little bit OT, but anyway… I was thinking what does a new (or reincarnated) pocket PC related webpage needs to attract new and retain old readers. In my opinion that may mean good authors that will attract people from their former website/blog/forum and unique content (The Arcade in my case) - something others do not offer, or do in totally ordinary and uninteresting way (think of freeware PPC programs sites PPC games reviews versus the Arcade).
Conditions are pretty much the same for everybody (I realized that when WM 6.1 were launched and I got like 7 messages from various sites in my RSS reader pointing to the same video concerning new features in WM 6.1). I want My Today Screen to deliver something else than the rest of the crowd. That can be also applied on reviews as there are products that get much more reviews than others (for example SPB ones) and so on. On one hand these are high quality products, but there is much information about them already that one more review will not make a difference.
I would like to see review/round-up of Core Player vs Pocket Player vs TCPMP. I would like to see review of PIE vs Opera vs Minimo vs Teashark vs Picsel Browser vs Skyfire vs NetFront vs Opera Mobile. I would like to see review of 40th Floor (http://40th.com/) music players - iplay and Phantasm which are said to be the best available, but the author is ultra paranoid (He even calls Werner “Menneisyys” Ruotsalainen a “warez jockey”) and has locked 95% of world population out of his website (which is the only place you can buy the product from). Simply put I want to read something I cannot read in cosmetically different spelling on the other PPC related websites/blogs.
Regards,
wolfie
I would love to see someone review the various personal finance programs. I know of a couple Pocket quicken, and Spb Finance, but haven’t taken the jump because it seems like they are always reviewed in a vacuum and never against each other or from a daily user perspective.
thanx
It would be cool if someone could make a decent review of all these ebook readers like mobipocket, MS Reader, AlReader, TomeRaider.
I’d like reviews/suggestions for syncing Google Calendar - particularly some of the paid options which use only a PDA. I know with the new official Google sync project there’s less interest here than before, but I’d rather not be dependent on syncing through my Outlook.
Totally agree with wolfie… where’s that Skyfire review BTW?
I am going to do a full response to many of these suggestions (a lot of which are quite good) but I did want to mention one reason that you may not see some of the reviews that you are requesting. Both Tariq and I wrote for different sites before we founded this one. That means we have already reviewed some things like Mobile Shell 2 and Skyfire, and it just does not make sense to do another review so quickly.
As for Skyfire specifically, Beta 2 is supposed to be right around the corner. Mobile Shell, we may tackle in another indirect way. But more on that later.
Doug
As I’ve mentioned before, I’d love to see comparison reviews of GPS navigation software!
