My Next Device: The Asus M536?

I have been looking for a new Pocket PC recently and one of the criteria is that it should have a front QWERTY keyboard so that I can fire off messages easily. However, the number of front QWERTY keyboards Pocket PCs are few and and far in between but this seems to be changing in 2008. Besides the HP iPAQ 910 (which I hope to review shortly), there’s another device that might just be the one for me: Asus M536.
It’s a rather new device, as highlighted by Engadget back in March. However, at that time, they mentioned that it was a triband GSM which was common in all ASUS Pocket PCs. Well it seems that might not be the case because PDAdb.net has this at quadband GSM and triband UMTS. It’s powered by a TIOMAP processor but before you groan, let me tell you that it’s clocked at 450MHz. Everything else is rather normal (256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, 3.1 MP camera and AGPS). But one thing unique (at least to upcoming ASUS line of Pocket PC) is this:
That’s ASUS overlay which is what the TouchFlo is to HTC. It sure looks nice and something I could find useful, as long as it doesn’t slowdown the device. I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.

I guess I’m not the only one looking for a phone with this form factor. I have my Blackjack 2, but the Standard version of Windows Mobile is still too limited in my opinion. My Tilt has been solid, but I get tired of having to slide the keyboard out and all of the bugs that go along with that (SIP issues, screen rotation lag, typing lag). For the first time in a very long time, I find myself wishing I had Sprint again so I could try out the Treo 800w.
I think there will be a Treo800w with on the GSM platform but it will be some time before it gets here so we can only hope. But I do agree that it’s a nice phone to have.
well… the rumored Blackjack III… aka the Samsung i780 (or i788 depending on GSM freqs) fits the bill… just another choice I suppose…
That’s a nice phone too though the mouse pad in place of the DPAD might not be something I like based on what I’ve heard. Gotta wait and see how that turns out.
