No WM6.1 Loving For HP iPaqs

HP Logo That seems to be case for current owners of this Pocket PC model, be it you bought the device today or 6 months back. According to Mike Hockey, Hewlett-Packard’s Worldwide Public Relations Manager:

HP will not be offering an operating system upgrade for currently shipping HP iPAQ devices beyond what ships on the device today — Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.

This decision comes after having evaluated the potential for delays in firmware and software updates, device recertification, and carry-over costs to our customers that are often associated with an operating system upgrade.

HP is committed to continuing its long-standing relationship with Microsoft and will deliver HP iPAQs with Windows Mobile 6.1 at a future date.

It’s really sad that HP is not planning any upgrades for their users, even if they recently bought the device. Are they then telling users to hold off their purchases until a new device comes out? If you are a HP user affected by this, what are your thoughts? (via Brighthand)

Sounds like HP - although after the iPaq 4700 / WM5 debacle, it doesn’t surprise me that they don’t want to upgrade devices anymore.
