Pocket PC Techs: They Don’t Make Your Devices, They Make Your Devices Better
There are a lot of companies out there making accessories for your device. BoxWave comes instantly to mind, as does Proporta. And they both make fantastic accessories and cases. What makes Pocket PC Techs a little different, however, is that while they make fantastic accessories, they also actively search for ways to improve your device. When I started using my Dell Axim, one of the first things I noticed was that the 64 MB of onboard memory was grossly inadequate. Shortly thereafter, I found a company which strove to address this problem. You guessed it: Pocket PC Techs (or PPC Techs as we also call them). They are the only company I have ever seen to offer a memory upgrade to 128 MB. They did not make my Axim, but they certainly could have made it better.
Now, Pocket PC Techs is offering a similar service for HP users. This time with the battery. I’ll let them tell you about it themselves after the jump.
VARTA, the manufacturer of the iPAQ 4700 Series Backup Battery has discontinued this battery and we were unsuccessful in persuading them to make one more batch of them.
After searching worldwide for a suitable replacement, we were unable to find a battery that would fit in the OEM battery socket.
We have done further research and designed a battery module that we can solder in place of the original battery & socket. This new battery is more robust and offers 3x the backup capacity of the OEM battery.
As you can see there is a significant cost difference between the replacement battery and our replacement service. This is unavoidable since it requires opening the unit and removing the surface-mount socket safely and then soldering the new battery into place.
To help offset the cost, we are standing behind our May discount offer that you received a few days ago. Please make sure to enter the discount code in the special instructions field of your web order when placing your new order for the service.
Two things really impress me about this service. First, the lengths to which Pocket PC Techs were willing to go in order to try to find an acceptable battery for all of you HP Ipaq 4700 users; and second that when they could not find an available solution, they created one of their own.
If you own an HP Ipaq 4700 series device, you can check out the new service here. It costs only $69.00 and includes the battery. And if you do use this service (or any of PPC Tech’s repair or upgrade services) write in an let us know.

I second the motion. I have had them work on several of my devices over the last few years and their service and customer relations are wonderful. Well worth being without my precious toys while they are shipped out to PPCTechs for upgrades/repairs.
I could not have said it any better, Suzanne. Every PPC Techs accessory I have used has been of the highest quality, and their staff are just fantastic. Great people and great products.
