Time again for me to wander slightly off topic and talk about laptop stand. I know what you are saying, this has nothing to do with Windows Mobile. And you would be right. But, sometimes, I like to address our readers other interests. A lot of you who are avid Windows Mobile users also use other mobile and portable devices, including a laptop, and this just seemed to be right up your alley. So, if you do not use a laptop, then feel free to skip on to the next article. Otherwise, come join me for a slightly off topic romp through the JetArt Coolstand 2.

Setting up the Cool Stand is a snap…literally. It all comes in one piece, so there is no assembly required. Just a little unfolding. All you have to do is set the notebook stand on any flat surface (but preferably the desk on which you plan to work). Now, you are just four easy steps away from a much more convenient laptop.

• First, raise the back of the stand (which includes the cooling unit) to the preferred angle.
• Now just flip up the hidden footpads in the front
• You’re stand is now ready for your laptop. Just rest it with the back on to of the cooling system and the front in the footpads.
• Connect the USB cable to your computer to immediately power the cooling system.

That’s it? You bet. That is all there is to it. Easy. And when you are done, just retract the USB cable, fold down the cooling system and footpads, and the stand is ready for storage or transport.

Speaking of the cooling system let’s go ahead and take a closer look at it since this is the main attraction of the stand. This system is absolutely genius in its simplicity. JetArt has clearly taken note of the fact that too many laptops suffer from problems relating to overheating and inadequate heat dissipation systems.

The JetArt’s cooling system consists of a fan which is placed directly beneath your computer. This fan draws the heat away from your computer, thus reducing the risk of heat related malfunctions. The best part, however, is that the fan make virtually no noise. I frequently cannot tell whether it is active or not, it is so quiet.

The fan is powered by plugging it directly into your computer’s USB port. This means that it does not require any extra cords, and will not take up space in your power strip, which is always appreciated.

My other favorite feature on this stand was the swivel base. This allows you to position your laptop at the most convenient angle for you. The only problem was that the base does not lock in position. This means that I frequently caused it to swivel inadvertently.

Overall, I loved this stand. Unlike some other stands I have used, it was large enough to accommodate my 15.4 inch laptop (many stands are too narrow for my laptop. I also loved the fan which is almost dead quiet, but did make a significant and noticeable difference in the temperature of my laptop.

What I Liked:

• Easy to setup
• Silent fan and cooling system

What Needs Improvement:

• Swivel base could use a brake or lock.
