Sprint WM Users To Get MMS?

Sprint customers using Windows Mobile devices not being able to send and receive picture messages (also called MMS) might soon be a thing of the past. No more tweaks, or hacks or installing of applications not meant for your device in order to get MMS. Instead, Sprint will be offering a native solution. When asked by Sprint customer “Steve” about their lack of support for Picture Mail on Windows Mobile devices Chief Marketing Officer John Garcia responded:
We’re working with Microsoft to build a PictureMail application that will work on their Windows product to give you a similar experience as our other products. As some of you may be aware, currently, you can actually do this on a Windows product, but you have to do it through e-mail or Bluetooth. We realize this is cumbersome. We’re working to enhance this for you soon.
Good news is that Sprint is working on it. Bad news is that there is no date set, so it could be as long as waiting for the yet-to-be-release Treo 800w.
According to the WMExperts, that delay could be due to Sprint requesting Palm to add some new software to the device. Could one of them be an MMS application? I just hope that it’s not delayed any longer than it already is. (via WMExperts)

This is wonderful news! I was very dissapointed when Sprint disabled the MMS hack I used to use. Using email to send photos from my Treo is just not the same. I’ll be looking forward to this new app.
Until then another has way has been developed.

Sorry if this double posts. not sure if comments are moderated or if there is a delay?
Thanks for the link. Yes there is moderation as stated in the text below the box
Thanks for the link digiSal! Serves me right for not checking PPC Geeks regularly.
I dunno - it seems silly that they have to work to develop something that other people already HAD working, albeit through a 3rd party program/hack. Sprint CHOSE to disable that ability, so their announcement that they are going to work to develop something that was already working just fine seems almost annoying, especially with no dates in place.
So that it would have this functionality right out of the box, instead of people having to hunt it down on the web. They probably have a lot of irate customers yelling at their CS reps because their expensive PDA phone doesn’t have this basic functionality that can be found on any cheap basic phone.
I can imagine how irritating it is especially if it’s something you have been wanting to use for the longest of time. Agreed, why can’t they just leave it as it was? Don’t fix something if it ain’t broken right?
I’m sure that Sprint has plenty of people complaining about a wide variety of things, particularly regarding their PDA phones. However, WM as a platform is so customizable that each person can create their “ideal” device - hunting down software on the web is half the fun of it!
I do agree, however, that this function should certainly be enabled “out of the box” and do hope they can get this “fixed” sometime soon.
at the Wmexperts link it is mentioned that Sprint said that these phones already had the capability to send photos via outlook or bluetooth so Sprint didn’t see the need to add this feature. The article goes on to say that Sprint was not aware for the Verizon MMS hack until recently so they blocked it because we were pirating Arcsoft’s software which was licensed to Verizon!
Get with the program Sprint!
Has anyone used sMMS to send pictures to Facebook (or other media aggregators)? This is one of the most annoying aspects of Sprint’s locking this down.
The bizarre part is that I just came from spending a year on a carrier that is a Sprint re-seller, that DID support MMS.
You know Fletcher, your confusion is as good as mine. I have no idea why Sprint does not have this feature at the moment.
