Start Doing More With Windows Mobile

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is not exactly news, as it has been around for some time now, but I just went over to www.startdoingmore.com, and I have to say I was extremely impressed by what I saw.

The page, which is Microsoft’s latest Windows Mobile portal on the Internet, is designed to show new users what their devices can do.  I was really pleased to find the site was well designed and extremely easy to navigate.

There are familiar elements, such as the Windows XP style start button which pops open to links to phone software, and experiences; and there are new elements, like the four large buttons leading to:

  • Get more done
  • Stay more connected
  • Explore more places
  • Have fun

I think these four buttons do a fantastic job of summing up the primary uses for a Windows Mobile device, and introducing the myriad of solutions for each.  Additionally, while the background does move through the city, it does not do so at the nausea-inducing, breakneck speed of the video we showed you a few weeks ago.

As many of you know, I have been one of Microsoft’s biggest critics lately when it comes to Windows Mobile marketing.  This site, however, coupled with a print ad I saw earlier today, is a real step in the right direction.  No surreal pink bunnies.  No bizarre jaunts through unrecognizable art.  Plain and simple.  Here it is, here is what it can do.  And here is why you should buy it.

Slow news day, eh?

Not at all, Bryan. Marketing is an area that I have been highly critical of MS in the past. So, when I came upon good marketing by them, I felt responsible for pointing it out. Not saying in any way that they did this in response to my criticism (though that sure would be cool). Only that they seem to be improving in an area I have criticised in the past.

hmm, don’t mean to criticize (too much), but covering an old MS site about Windows Mobile doesn’t seem blog worthy. People (like me) read your site for stuff that will benefit or help us, not for random thoughts about MS advertising.

I hear ya, Bryan. That was not exactly an old site, it is relatively new, it just wasn’t brand new. And like I said, I felt it was appropriate to give kudos to MS for fixing something I had criticized pretty heavily in the past. Really, I suppose we try to give something for everyone. :)

I really enjoy the “explore more places” one. Definitely helpful information. Thanks!
