TCPMP Gets Souped Up

TCPMP I don’t know about you but TCPMP is my media player of choice on the Pocket PC. It’s freeware, supports a whole host of formats (including playing YouTube videos) and plays the videos well. What’s there not to like about it? If you say slow FLV playbacks or bad subtitle support, then be prepared to strike those off your list as well.

That’s because XDA-Developers Forum member milesmowbray has released a new source compatible with VS2008 (which as all compiler optimizations turned on) which he claims is 5-10% faster than the original build on his Kaiser. I am not sure if the slowdown was due to video driver as I did not experience any on my Glofiish X500 but it’s good to know nonetheless. More info here.

For those who love watching foreign films but hate doing it on your Windows Mobile device for lack of substitile support, there’s a new plugin called TCPMP SUBS Subtitle Plugin. Unlike the old plugin which only supports SMI, this new one does Advanced Sub Station Alpha (ass), Sub Station Alpha (ssa), Sami (sami) and Subripper (srt). Get yours here.
