The HP iPAQ 910 Business Manager

HP You would have heard about HP’s latest Pocket PC by now but if you have not, not to worry. HP had (on paper at least) a really great product but they did not do much in terms of advertising. Couple with the fact that this phone is sold unlocked (at least here in the United States) and no carrier is picking it up adds to the lack of awareness of this Pocket PC.

Fret not though because that’s what MTS does: we take products that people seldom hear about and tell you just how it is. Sometimes we cover gems or unpolished diamonds. Other times, not so. So where does the HP iPAQ 910 Business Manager fall into?

HP iPAQ 910 To answer that question, you’ll have to read my 4 part mini reviews of it. Part I, which is what you are reading, introduces you to the device. Just to introduce you to a feel of the product in case you have not heard about it. Even if you have, be sure to take a second look at this $499 front QWERTY keyboard Pocket PC. So what does it pack?

  • 32 bit Intel XScale PXA270 416MHz
  • 256MB ROM
  • 128MB RAM
  • 2.46” 320×240 TFT screen with 65,546 colors
  • Quad band GSM (GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900)
  • Tri band UMTS (UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100)
  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • WiFi (B/G)
  • Multi Mode GPS
  • 37 key front facing QWERTY keyboard
  • Stereo loudspeakers
  • 3MP camera with autofocus, LED flash and self-portrait mirror
  • microSD support (including microSDHC)
  • Pressable rotary scroll wheel
  • USB 2.0 port
  • 64.18 x 113.97 x 15
  • 154g (with battery)
  • 1940 mAh battery capacity
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

From the specifications alone, you can tell that it’s one great piece of hardware. And when you consider that it only goes for $499, it does look like a great deal. While this phone seems to be targeted at business professionals (hence the name Business Manager), even I, who is not one, would appreciate such a device.

So be sure to stay tuned for Part II which I promise will come with a more in-depth review of the hardware of the iPAQ 910 Business Manager.

Looks like a good device and direct competition for Treo Pro. I’m tempted, but have some concerns about screen (Will some apps have problem with 320×240 screen especially navigation software?) and HP support which has gone pretty bad recently.

So far no problems. In fact, the 320×240 is QVGA in landscape mode and I have run navigational programs in such mode and had no problems.
