Twit Today From Your Pocket PC
There are many ways to you can use Twitter on your Pocket PC and we’ve even got an article that links to another article that shows you 20 applications you could use from your mobile device. But that list is not exhaustive and here’s one more to add to the mix.
Twit Today was created by Dale Lane who calls himself and IBM code monkey among other things. The problem with a lot of the applications out there is that you need to launch it which contradicts with one of Twitter’s strength: getting your message across quickly.
With Twit Today, the issue of speed is addressed. It resides on your Today screen (it’s a Today screen plug in) so when you want to tweet, you just enter the message and hit OK. Voila!
If you want to read updates, then just tap on the Twitter logo and it would open the mobile version of Twitter (that’s http://m.twitter.com/ for those unaware) in your default browser. And because it’s coded in C++, the application is really quick and lightweight.
So why would you want to use this over everything else? For starters, there’s the convenience factor since it’s already on your Today screen. There’s no need to launch additional applications to Twit. Also, you do not need to subscribe to receiving text messages which could drain your battery quicker than you can send out the next twit.
So if this all sounds great to you, head over here to download your free copy of Twit Today. And let the developer know what you think of it. (via dale lane)

Ha. Typing on your Today screen. How about all those people without a hardware keyboard? They can tap between the softkeys all they want, but there’s no SIP that will pop up on the Today screen. Which means that they don’t have a way to enter any text in the box!
(Yeah unless you have Calligrapher with the System Tray icon which enables the SIP on the Today Screen).
Apparently everyone who blogs about this has a device with hardware QWERTY keyboard because only THEN it can be useful.
Unfortunately it doesn’t work with my connection (might be due to proxies?), otherwise it would indeed be very useful for me. Sticking to Tiny Twitter.
spmwinkel – SIP support is a fair point, and not something that I’ve looked into.
It’s worth pointing out that this was written overnight as a very quick hack at the Over The Air development event. I wouldn’t want to claim that a couple of hours worth of hacking at 2am is enough to make a polished product that takes anyone other than my own needs into consideration!
That said, I’m keen to go back to it and start adding code to make it more broadly useful. I started with improvements to the network connection management and will certainly look into SIP and proxy code as future improvements to make.

Hi
First of all, I do hope that my comment wasn’t taken as negative criticism. I do really like the idea of updating from my Today screen and checking the rest online. Obviously the Today plugin is a lot smaller than the programs that also update the timelines etc.
It was more that the past few days lots of people blogged about Twit Today but nobody mentioned the SIP thingie.
For me that’s no issue since I have a TyTn II, so the only reason why I uninstalled it was that because of the proxy, I can’t use it on the go.
A very minor thing that you might want to take into consideration is to decrease the font of the “OK” button a little so that it fits on the button.
Thank you for stopping by, and good luck on the future development of Twit Today – I´ll keep an eye on news about updates.
