UMTS Frequencies

I had a scare earlier about the X1 not supporting T-Mobile USA’s 3G networks but Engadget managed to calm my nerves. One thing about that might have confused you were all that UMTS codes like UMTS I, UMTS VIII and UMTS II, among the many other UMTS bands. So what do these codes represent? In case you were wondering, here they are:

All you need to get from the table above is the Operating Band and Frequency Band. All other information is not really necessary.

For your reference, here are the bands the major US carriers use:

  • AT&T: UMTS II/V (1900/850)
  • T-Mobile: UMTS I/IV (2100/1700AWS)
