Watch The Olympics With Skyfire

In the spirit of the Olympics, Skyfire has opened up their private beta for a limited time. Between August 18th and August 30th you can sign up for the Skyfire beta using the code “Michael8“. According to Skyfire Beta’s Twitter Feed, this promotion is to allow more people to enjoy the Olympics action on their phones since they recently added Microsoft Silverlight support.
Skyfire currently supports both the Windows Mobile Standard and Professional platforms. Unlike other mobile browsers like Pocket IE, Opera Mobile, or Iris, Skyfire is a server assisted product. What does that mean? Here is the explanation from Skyfire’s FAQ site:
Q: How is Skyfire able to render the PC Web?
A: Skyfire’s proprietary technology enables us to support the real web both now and in the future as new web technologies are implemented. We have created a brand new architecture that’s server assisted. It’s an asymmetric distributed approach where the server does the heavy lifting so the client is high performing.
Have you tried Skyfire? How do you think it performs compared to the other mobile browsers like Opera and Iris?
