Acer Entering The Smartphone Market

Acer + ETEN Until recently, the only devices that Acer had that ran Windows Mobile were PDAs without phone capabilities. That looks to change with its recent acquisition of ETEN. Since that announcement was made last month, no one knew what Acer planned to do with ETEN but it looks like those clouds of doubt are finally clearing. Said Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer, at the company’s first quarter investors’ conference in Taipei:

Smartphones will represent as much as 10 percent of Acer’s revenue in the next few years

He also added that the smartphones could be launched under any of the brands it owns which includes Gateway and Packard Bell. So stay tuned as Acer prepares to slug it out with the big boys in the industry. (via SolSie)

HTC To Bring Something Beautiful

HTC Or so we assume judging from it’s latest slogan: Bringing Something Beautiful. No doubt it’s got something to do with their May 6th event and the spyshots that we saw earlier. With Raphael and Diamond specs and (very blurry) shots leaked earlier this week, HTC is definitely using the right slogan. I wonder if there are any more beautiful surprises lined up. Tired Of Duplicate Contacts?

DupeDeDupe Then head over to MoDaCo and download DupeDeDupe. It’s a small application created by none other than Paul from the site. Within 2 seconds, it can compare 200 contacts and let you know which are duplicates so you can decide which ones stay and which goes. How does it do it? Well according to Paul:

Contacts are compared based on ‘File As’, field, ‘Email’ field and ‘Home / Work / Mobile’ phone fields. If all those fields match, it’s deemed a duplicate.

There’s nothing to install since it’s an .exe file. Just copy it over to your device and run. Can’t get any easier than that. (via MoDaCo)
