From Treo 850w To Treo Pro, The Live Shots

What is one of the best ways to confirm a leaked product is legit? Immediately pull all evidence of that product from the web as soon as the community notices it’s there. After the initial leak was pulled, WMExperts received some live shots from a member of their forums that show off the new Palm Treo Pro. This GSM device is one of the reasons I stay with AT&T. For those of us that have been waiting for a solid Windows Mobile Professional device with a front-facing keyboard and a decent resolution, the Treo Pro looks like it will be a very solid choice.

WMExperts lists the information that they know so far:

  • 400Mhz CPU , but snappy response
  • 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM! (Other reports show “In use: 43.96mb, Free 57.72mb”)
  • 320*320 screen
  • GPS
  • Full Tri-band 3G, Quad-band GSM
  • 2 Megapixel camera
  • microUSB connector!
  • 3.5mm Earphone connector
  • 1500mah battery (this is looking like it might actually be true?)

HTC Diamond? iPhone 3G? No thanks. I will be waiting for a Treo for the first time in several years.

Windows Mobile Social Networking Tools Mature

I am still new to the Web 2.0/social networking scene. I have had a Facebook account set up because my wife wanted me to have one for a year or so. Recently, I discovered Twitter and now it seems like I am signing up for every social networking tool I can find. When the Twitter and Facebook iPhone apps were released I was jealous…for about a second until I realized that there had to be some quality solutions on Windows Mobile. A couple of my favorite programs had some quality upgrades this week:

ceTwit

VITO Technology Updates Winterface To v1.11

Did you read the announcement about Winterface being updated to 1.1 and download the new version only to run into a few issues on your device? Well the great folks at VITO Technology are listening and requesting feedback from the community to work all of the device specific bugs out of their latest Winterface release. 3. Fixed bug with the freezing of the device when moving pages.
4. Fixed bugs connected with calendar.

Winterface v1.11 also adds the following features if you have FunContact installed:

1. By pressing “Contacts” icon, Winterface opens FunContact.
2. If you have missed calls you are directed to the call history in FunContact

Live Mesh Team Shares The Limits Of The Current Live Mesh Implementation

Have you been wondering how many Live Folders you can sync through the Live Mesh service? The Microsoft Live Mesh Team has shared some of the “limits” they have in place during the technology preview of the Live Mesh service. Check out the following to see how what you can do with your piece of the Cloud:

  • Size of all contents in a single Live Folder: 10GB (of course there’s still the 5GB quota which limits how much you can synchronize with the Live Desktop)
  • Individual file size: 2GB
  • Items (file or folders) per Live Folder: 100,000
  • Members per Live Folder: 200
  • Number of Live Folders per user: 200
  • Number of devices per user: 100

They also mention that these numbers represent “upper bounds” that they are testing right now and they expect them to increase as the service matures.

Celio Drops The Redfly By $100

This week, Celio dropped the price of the Redfly by $100 down to $399.95 over at the WMExperts store. This brings the Redfly closer to the netbook prices, but is it enough to be competitive in the consumer market? I can definitely see the appeal of the Redfly for enterprises, but I think it still might have a hard time competing against the onslaught of low priced netbooks that are coming out. Does this price drop make the Redfly more attractive to you?
