FireFox Releases Concept Video Of Mobile Version

It was pretty quiet over at the the FireFox headquarters these past couple of weeks. We first head about them late last year when they mentioned that they were going to release a mobile version of their popular browser for the mobile platform. Since then, updates were sparse and we didn’t really have anything concrete in terms of applications. Not anymore as this video proves:

Firefox Mobile Concept Video from Aza Raskin on Vimeo.

While still looking a little raw, Fennec (the code name for FireFox Mobile) does show a lot of potential and I can’t wait for them to release an alpha or beta version for us to try out. For those of you who can’t wait, there’s a code for the demo version you saw above (it is open-source anyway) that you can download here and play with. If you have no idea what that does, you’re better off waiting for the beta version like me. (via Aza’s Thought)

VITO Brings SMS-Chat To v1.1

VITO SMS-Chat gets a nice upgrade Not too long ago, I did a review of VITO’s iWindowsMobile Communication Suite and I found SMS-Chat to be a joy to use. Sure there were some quirks here and there, but nothing that would impact the user-experience. So how does a company improve an already great product?

For one, they’ve added smilies. So now your icons are replaced with what they’re meant to convey. No more :D as it will now turn into a smiley. But that’s not all, they’ve also made links a lot smarter. If you were to click on a hyperlink, it’ll open up in a browser, clicking on a number places a call and an email address opens up your email editor. Nice!

To top it all off, VITO has also introduced a bright skin for those who are feeling cheery and want their device to reflect their mood. As usual, upgrades are free for current users of v1.x and licenses cost just $14.95 a piece. Head over here to get yours.

Sprint To Launch Treo 800w On July 13th?

Treo 800w to finally be released on July 13th?

That’s less than a month away but for this phone that was meant to be launched last year, I’ll take a wait and see approach with it. According to the folks at WMExperts, it’ll set you back by $250 after signing a 2 year contract, instant savings and rebates which does not seem too bad. Considering that there is a lack of front QWERTY keypad of Windows Mobile phone out there, this should do pretty well for those who love typing on the go. Now, if only they can start selling it.

PhatWare Improves PhatNotes In v5.3

PhatWare PhatNotes One of the most robust note-taking applications, PhatNotes, just got an upgrade to v5.3 for both its Windows based PCs and Smartphones. On the PC end, we now have a new taskbar menu ‘which provides a quick access to the PhatNotes application and all opened notes and allows users to hide PhatNotes popup windows when minimized, create new notes, and change other application settings.’ Not to forget, support for the new Vista SP1 as well. Smartphone users will get support for WM6.1 as well as 2 new UI themes and an improved autobackup feature in the desktop portion of the application. Users of the the registered current version enjoy a free upgrade while previous version users can upgrade for $19.95. New users can purchase a license key for $39.95. More info here.

SugarSync Takes Top Honors

SugarSync is a really powerful backup and sync program and we told you that in our recent review here at My Today Screen. But if you needed more convincing, it can’t get any better than winning top honors for Mobile Innovation from GSM Association. It just goes to show how great this service is and just why anyone who uses a computer would want to have one. For those of you who have yet to give it a try, they have a 45 day free trial and plans start from as low as $2.49 a month. Backup and sync has never been cheaper and easier.
