Weekly Windows Mobile Roundup On June 7 2008
NVIDIA’s New Tegra 600/650
This chip is going to change Windows Mobile as we know it. Why you ask? Watch this video and you’ll understand:
The chip, clocked at 800MHz, has multiple processors which include a HD video processor, an imaging processor, an audio processor, and an ultra-low power GeForce GPU. What’s more, they will support 1080p HDMI, WSXGA+ LCD or CRT, and NTSC/PAL TV outs. Can you say WOW! You’ll have to wait though as it would only be coming to smartphones in 2009. Still we can dream right. (via Engadget)
Qik Comes To Windows Mobile
What’s that you ask? Well it’s a way for you to easily share videos that you capture from your device with the rest of the world. Alternatively, you can also watch videos from other Qik users on your device without the need for any other application. It’s a pretty nifty application to say the least.
Right now, the application is in alpha stage with an invite-only status and only supports Motorola Q and the Samsung BlackJack. Support for other devices on the WM platform is expected in the coming months, once they iron out the problems encountered during the trial run. While it’s been available for Nokia phones running the S60 platforms for quite some time now, soon you’ll be able to enjoy all the quick goodness on your WM device. (via TechCrunch)
Resco Releases Explorer 2008 And Brain Games v2.0
It seems that Resco has been really busy this year, with their latest offering being Explorer 2008 and Brain Games v2.00. Explorer is a feature-packed file manager but it’s more than just that, it packs a registry editor, FTP, recycle bin and a whole host of other features that made it such a hit among the Windows Mobile device owners. Now that Explorer 2008 has been released, what’s changed you ask? And is it worth the upgrade? Well you decide for yourself:
That’s a whole host of new features in this new version alone. So if you have yet to get give Explorer 2008 a go, head over here and find out why it’s the file manager of choice of many.
As for Brain Games, it’s an application made up mini-games all with the aim of improving your mental capabilities. With 36 games to choose from that cover memory, analytical and calculation training, this would definitely be considered a money well spent application. Like many other applications out there, it’s very finger-friendly so keep that stylus. And be sure to keep track of your progress with the very details statistics provided. Not too sure about the games themselves as I’ve not tried them but you can be assured that I will as soon as I finish this round up. Head over here to grab yours.
WorldMate Gets An Upgrade
It’s seldom that you get a freeware that is robust and well-supported but that’s just what WorldMate is. Released by MobiMate initially as a premium application (with a very high subscription price), it’s been made freeware on most of the features for a couple of months now. I say most because there are still 5 features (real time flight status, flight schedules, satellite weather imagery, global dialing code guide and packing list organizer) that requires a paid license if you want to use it.
If you don’t need those 5 features, then by all means, go ahead and download the free version because it’ just got an upgrade recently. Unfortunately, there’s no changelog to tell you what has changed so you’ll have to figure that one out on your own. Head over here to grab your copy.
E-TEN Release 4 New Models
![]()
From L to R: V900, DX900, X900, X610
Well 3 to be correct since we already know about the V900 for a couple of months now. The other 3 are the DX900 which is a dual-SIM device, the X900 which is an upgrade of the current X800 and the X610 which appears to be an entry level device. All will be released under the Glofiish model of lineup but no word as to when we will be expecting.
Don’t get me wrong. I love E-TEN devices and even have one myself (the Glofiish X500, an old model but serving me well all this time). But what bothers me is that E-TEN is really can be unpredictable when it comes to releasing new models into the market. The X800 was paraded for many months before it was released and not many knew about the M800 before it was quietly sold. Anyone want to take a guess as to when we’ll see these new models? Zumobi Gets An Update
When Zumobi first came out, I really liked the concept but gave up on it after a while because of the lack of content. Well it seems that with this new update, that would be a thing of the past. That’s because the new Tile Wizard let’s you create your very own content widgets. Just how easy? Here’s an example:
And if you are feeling generous, you can can even share your creations with the rest of the world. Looks like it’s time we gave Zumobi another go eh?
