WalkingHotSpot Turns Your Pocket PC Into a WiFi Hotspot

TapRoot System logoGot an unlimited data connection and want to share it with your colleagues the next time you are out together? The WalkingHotSpot by TapRoot is something keeping a watch on. It turns your Pocket PC into WiFi hotspot. What’s great about this application is that you could be using your phones as a hotspot and at the same time, be able to make and receive calls. Unfortunately, it seems that TapRoot plans to it directly to carriers. (via jkOnTheRun)

Google Pushing For White Space Use

Google logoWhile it may not have won in the recently conclude 700MHz spectrum, that did not stop it from imposing rules on those who won. And it seems to be doing that again with the white space, which is the spectrum between television stations. The TV stations are saying that it would interfere with their broadcast but Google says that it can assist in creating a viable technology that would enable the deployment of broadband to rural areas. Sounds pretty noble but will it stand? (via geek.com)

Google’s Secret Location Based Service

Still on the topic of Google, it seems that they have a new service available that has not been announced. By heading over to http://www.google.com/m/lcb you can search for businesses around a particular area. Great for those situations where you are in a new part of the city and need suggestions on where to eat. Or when you are bored at home and just need some suggestions. And once you get the results, you can even map it so you can find your way there. Right now it seems this service is still in testing phase thought it looks good to go. Anyone has any idea what LCB stands for? (via IntoMobile)

Celio Redfly Gets Reviewed

Celio RedflyUnfortunately we do not have any of them here at My Today Screen but here are some reviews on the device that you might want to check out. We’ve got one from jkOnTheRun, another from ZDNet and yet another from Brighthand. So just what is Redfly? It’s a device that connects to your Pocket PC via a USB or Bluetooth connection and provides a larger screen, keyboard and trackboard for navigation.Sounds like what MyMobiler does right? Well not quite. Because this device is not exactly a laptop and on top of that, you get 2 USB ports to connect your flash drives to as well as a VGA output port.Pretty awesome device I must say.

MySpace Goes Mobile

MySpace logoI’m not a MySpace user but if you are one, you’ll want to check this out: MySpace now has a mobile site for you. This new site provides the usual features like viewing and searching for friends as well reading and composing messages. So how do you get this mobile goodness? By pointing your browser to m.myspace.com that’s how. (via Pocket PC Thoughts)

Paperless Boarding Comes Your Way

After eticket, what’s next? How about eBoarding Pass? Well, that’s not what’s called but it could pass as one. With this new system, you don’t even get a paper boarding pass. Instead, your mobile device receives a barcode from the carrier and you show it to security who will then let you through. What a way to save the earth! (via SolSie)

Remove Scrollbars From Your Screen

Don’t like the scrollbars on your screen? If you’re using a smartphone (Windows Mobile Standard), then it makes sense to remove them since they serve no purpose other than to tell you that there are more items below. If that is what you want, here’s a tip for you. It also has a tip if you want to make them thinner instead of removing them totally. (via pocketnow.com)

Noreve’s New Cases

You’ve spent quite a lot on your Pocket PC, shouldn’t you spend a bit more to protect it as well? A lot of the cases I have seen out there are functional but bulky or thin but does not have as many features. With cases from Noreve, you can now get the best of both worlds.

Noreve Samsung SGHi617 caseTheir leather case for the HP iPAQ210 also supports other similar models such as the 211, 212 and 214. It also fits 2 storage cards on top of the 2 business or credit cards. With the stainless steel mesh protectors for the speakers, you’ll now be able to minimize dust from entering without a compromise on loudness. And with many other Noreve cases, you can expect the same top quality handcrafted leather crafted with openings for your basic functions like charging, camera and headphone jack.

Noreve Samsung SGHi617 caseIf your device is the Samsung SGH-i617 Blackjack 2, they too have a case for you. It’s got the same great quality leather and features: stainless steel mesh protector for the speaker and access to your phone’s functions like charging, headset port and camera. Unlike the iPAQ’s, this one only comes with 2 storage card slots but it’s still a beauty nonetheless.

Both the HP’s and Samsung’s case retails for $44.99 each and come in multiple shades of color so be sure to check them out. (via NoreveUSA)

Great to see these roundups here! :)
You know I always liked them on Etenblog.com

Yup, I remember you were a big fan of it and it’s now back on My Today Screen.

Great job, Tariq. I love these roundups. One thing that has always frustrated me is not having enough time to write all of the news posts I come across. This is a great tool for picking up “the best of the rest”. :)

Doug

Thanks Doug. I used to have these back at Eten Blog but had to stop after a while as they took a long time. But I think a weekly schedule for this is just nice, especially more so for a weekend read :D
