Weekly Windows Mobile Roundup On May 10 2008
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
If you’re an avid reader of My Today Screen, you may have read the site this week and found yourself thinking, “Hey, there is not much news here.” Well, you would be correct. Was there a simple lack of news this week? Not with all of the HTC Diamond announcements, there sure wasn’t. Did we just forget or decide to ignore the news? Not exactly. And we were not incredibly busy writing up the next contest either.
No, we simply decided to save it all for later. You see, most of the news we cover is frequently covered by a myriad of other sites long before we get to it. So, except for the really big news or software releases, we felt that covering the same story for the umpteenth time on the Interner would only take away from the more important reviews and opinion posts we write. And frankly, we would rather direct your attention to those posts rather than have you stumble upon the 6 millionth complaint about the 900 mAh battery in the HTC Diamond.
But the real question is, how can we still ensure that we cover all of the news, without it overpowering the site. The answer was so simple and obvious, it took us a full month to figure it out. Starting this week, we have moved to consolidate most of the news into our already existing news roundup. That being said, we’ll still bring you interesting news and software releases when they break. Most of it, however, will be saved for this round up which makes for a great weekend read. So grab your coffee and click the Continue Reading link to find out what happened this past week.
T-Mobile To Buy Sprint?
Well not T-Mobile per say but it’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, may be planning to add Sprint to it’s company of family. That includes Nextel as well which is currently a part of Sprint. It’ll be interesting to see how this works out because T-Mobile is GSM-based while Sprint is CDMA-based. Will DT merge them into one behemoth or continue to operate them separately. Only time will tell. (via IntoMobile)

Add PPCTechs.com to the mix. Using the coupon code PPCTRC0508, you can get either of these 2 goodies:
- 25% discount off the MSRP of any other accessories OR
- 15% discount off the MSRP of any other repairs
Like all good things, this one will come to an end as well on May 31st 2008. So if’s there’s an accessory that you’ve been wanting to get your hands on or need to send your device in for repairs, there’s no better time than now. Don’t forget the coupon code PPCTRC0508.
Sprint’s Treo 800w Release Date Confirmed?
According to WMExperts, that date is July 22nd 2008. That’s the most specific date I’ve seen so far for the release of this long awaited product. I still remember reading last year about how a 3Q 2007 release was probable (and as we all know now, it was missed). Will Sprint honor this date or will they be pushing it back just to spite us because the surprise was leaked? All I can say is that we’ve waiting long enough Sprint. No more delays.
For those wondering what the big fuss is about this phone, well it’s got everything that you could possibly want in a device such as GPS, large memory and RAM (sources says it’s very fast with almost no lag) and the high speed EvDO Rev A. Add a 320×320 screen resolution and a larger keyboard than the Centro that lights up and you have an almost perfect device. Now if only they would launch it.(via WMExperts)

Proporta’s New Dock & Discounts
A lot happened at Proporta this past week. For one, they’re planning to release a new universal iPod dock. This sleek new design works with with many of Apple’s models including iPod classic 80GB, iPod classic 160GB, iPod 3G nano, iPod touch and iPhone. If white’s not your color, they have a black version as well. Going for $21.95, it’ll only be launched at the end of May so you’ll have to wait till then to get your hands on one.
As for the discount part of this article, well that’s because Proporta has just set up a page on Facebook. Called the Proporta Facebook page, friends (those who joined it) will get access to a special promotions area, the latest product reviews and sneak announcements of products not yet launched. You can even communicate with other users as well as Proporta directly. As part of the launch celebrations, you can get 10% any Proporta branded hardware by entering the discount code FRIENDSFOREVER at the cart page. They also have another discount code LOVEMYIPOD where you can get 50% off all Proporta branded 2G iPod nano cases. And since Mother’s Day is around the corner, there’s also a 10% discount coupon with the promotion code ILOVEMOM.
Yahoo! Go 3 Beta Only For Windows Mobile Standard

There was a quite a bit of fanfare earlier this week when Yahoo! Go 3 Beta was released. Unfortunately, what many did not cover was that it seems to be only limited to Windows Mobile Standard. I tried myself to download it from my Eten Glofiish X500 but the site said that it was currently not available for my device. But for those of you using WM Standard, be sure to go grab your copy. New features of 3.0 Beta include:
- An integrated at-a-glance Yahoo screen
- Improved Yahoo oneSearch
- Prettier design and navigation, complete with clouds
- Full-on widget support, with in-app widgets like MySpace and eBay
Hopefully the Windows Mobile Classic/Professional version comes out soon enough. Until then, I guess I will just have to continue with 2.0 for now. (via WMExperts)
Pointui Home Updated To v1.51a
Not much can be said about the changelog as I could not find one of the website but v1.5a was released with bug fixes, a new look, extra customizable options as well as some major enhancements such as support for languages such as Chinese and Russian. On top of that, Pointui also built in Contacts managements.
V1.51a was released 4 days later and nothing much as mentioned about it (again due to the lack of changelog) except that the developers now claimed that it could be enjoyed by Blackjack customers the way they intended it to be (which was???).
If you do have access to the changelogs, do let me me know in the comments below and I will be glad to add them to this section. In the mean time, if you are a user of the application, be sure to grab your copy. (via mobility site)
