Weekly Windows Mobile Roundup On May 3 2008

Windows Mobile Developer Contest

AT&T Developer Contest If you are a game developer, then AT&T is looking for you to take part in a contest they are organizing. Through a partnership with Windows Mobile, HTC and iPlay (a mobile game distributor), they’ve ponied up $25,000 cash and a distribution contract for the winner. Runner up will be compensated with $5,000.

I am not sure how long a game takes to be developed but you’ll need to submit your entries by July 31st 2008. The winner will be announced at some time during CTIA in San Francisco which takes place between September 10-12 2008.

For more information or to sign up, head on over here. (via MoDaCo)

The iSwish Project

There are quite a number of applications out there that provide you with an alternative user interface such as PointUI’s Home, VITO’s GoodWin and iFonz. Now add iSwish to the list as well which allows you to mimick the iPhone’s UI on your Windows Mobile device. This video will explain it better:

There are no downloads at the moment though you can e-mail info@flicksoftware.com with the device you have and a subject of iSwish Beta to take part in a trial that starts in May. (via pocketnow.com)

Windows Mobile Connection

Windows Mobile Connection

It’s a new website launched by Microsoft that’s targeted at those working in the mobile industry. It contains links to various subjects such as Windows Mobile training, mobile-friendly sites, and downloads as well as a forum where users can discuss various topics.

According to Bill Fisher, a moderator of the site:

I think the Connection is unique: It’s all about bringing together Microsoft’s mobility experts—the technical people, writers, and marketing folks—with the real people behind the retail counters or on the other end of the phone line—in other words, you, the people who sell and support mobile phones, particularly Windows Mobile phones. We just didn’t see anywhere on the Web that was specifically built with you in mind, to help mobile-industry professionals connect with each other, ask questions, find answers, and talk openly about what matters to them—technology, selling, customers, and the like.

I think it’s a great idea too. Hopefully the target audience would be a part of this project so that they can better serve their customers. How many times have we heard stories of customers educating the sales staff? Hopefully such stories would be minimized with this. (via pocketnow.com)

Lotus Expeditor Comes To Windows Mobile

Lotus Expeditor Unfortunately, for now, it’s only going to be limited to Sprint’s WM6 phones. But what’s the big deal about it? Well, this next generation Java platform, called Titan

…can run generically written rich GUI applications that can run across a broad range of devices and desktop computers. The platform also includes APIs to give you access to Sprint specific phone features.

No word yet as to what applications specifically are being developed but considering the popularity of IBM Lotus Notes email and Lotus Sametime, there might be a good chance we will see something similar on our Pocket PCs soon (via WMExperts)
